It's hard to explain the austerity of this path. a perfectly excellent New Year's eve, and I spend it (not getting laid) behind a camera, rocked back and forth by a delirious crowd...
The beauty of it is definitley wide, real wide... and I think if you spend time with this footage, You will understand why I see it always had the destiny...to go WORLD WIDE... and it is...now going world wide.
I explored all the avenues I could...and finally resolved myself to do this all solo... Traveling amny miles in an old Jeep Cherokee...wiht a sleeping bag... and not a lot of cash...filming Pele Ju Ju, John Trudell, and a hundred other bands.
This night... after the long 4 hours... endurance run... leaving the club after saying goodbye to Dana... it was a long lonely walk.
My heart was so full... I just wanted to kick back with the band at the after party, fall asleep in some college girl's arms... wake up and have a cup of coffee watching the surfers catching waves.
It's a dream, sort of a dream,,, I held in my heart as I walked to my Jeep...4 am...
I wasn't invited to any after party... and doing this kind of filming, never gave me much of a chance to meet anyone at tny gigs... austerity... the solo long walk... we all have to do it ...one time or another... these were my big years... I did 12 years exactly like this..folks.
I could have been soemwhere building a life... but I chose, instead to put my life on the line to bring stuff like this back for you now.

It's a long range vision...and it was never easy to explain to anyone else... I guess many folks did stuff like this, build a dream...with whole teams of friends... collaborators...
But I'd had these premonitions of a time in the future when personal freedom may not exist... and fear would be around every corner.
Idedicated myself to capture th ebeuaty with mycameras, and redeliver it when it all makes more sense...how [precious it really is/was/can be.

ON one hand, my heart knew I had achieved a medal, had survived a battle... had beena warrior...
Walking back to my jeep with arms full of gear.
I knew I needed and deserved, and earned athat goddess caress...
I was about a block away from my truck... and I see these curvy beauties enjoying the art glued all over it...the art truck... the warrior pony...they were loving it, and laughing and dancing around it...
I said..."Hey...don't you hurt my truck, now...!"
Half joking.
they turned around..."this is YOUR truck!... it's great...can we give youa jug?!"
And for about 30 seconds, I'm a "man sandwich" between two luscious beauties... I get a couple kisses on the cheek...they even show me that thye had left "action figures on the hood to glue on later".
this is all true...folks...
I drove home that night crying tears of joy...
couldn't believe that , for a few seconds there... it all lined up.
and the hole in my heart was full.

Description: 1995/99 filmed/directed by Toe Knee StangerI got to be good friends with Dana Hutson, Pele Ju Ju's lead singer. It was Mammoth lakes, California... the winter of 95. I'd driven all day, and arrived right in the middle of the set a band was performng (that I was there to film). I had my guest pass, about 40 bucks of loose change.. an art truck that was uninsured... that was aslo behaving very badly up the steep inclines. I had gotten halfway, then realized i had very little options.... not place to stay... it was cold as ****... and the gas mileage had me worried... Out of all that, I had finally found the stage area, and I was shaking with concern about walking another cliff edge, looking at the ground below me... feeling the wind hitting me hard... I could not beleve mypath had brought me there! to that same cliff edge! AGAIN! I walked out of my art truck, through the security with my pass... and right to center in front of the stage and started shooting the set the Amandla Poets were playing... I felt a little confused, because i could feel myslef shaking with the cold and reality of no "safety nets" , no budget...nothing in writing from that other band... and now... out in the middle of nowhere, with just enough gasoline to get back... maybe... and just enough warm clothes not to freeze to death. But I had taken this inner vow... to serve on this path... and I was thinking , that maybe...just maybe I could wake up one or two of these bands to the real voalue of my media skills in the coming years (YOUtube and Steve Jobs prove I was right... really right...). there I was in the winter of 95-96... and makingevery effort to go forward, create beauty... trust in creator/goddess... that if I could just showcase these great performers thorugh my access tv show... and maybe make a demo ofr them... I could help create a better world... with such service... and maybe even raise my own living conditions... eventually to do some indy films... It felt like a big leap. I hadn't eaten anything, there wasn't time to... nor did I really have the funds... and I couldn't seem to get the Amadla Poets attention... I wished they had listened to me... i was thee to build music videos... but they had no understanding of media... I felt a little lost.
