G.R.E.S. Unidos do Berimbau, also known as Banda Berimbau, is a group of Brazilian percussions composed of musicians coming from various Italian regions and some foreign country too. Formed in the year 2000, the group is based in the city of Trieste (north-east of Italy) and often cooperates with Brazilian singers and dancers for its concerts.
It's one of the most active and most important groups in Italy for this kind of music, with hundreds of live shows of any kind: from concerts to street parades, including the classical Carnival parade.
The Band played in the whole country in Italy, including some participation to local, national and international TV and radio shows.
The latest of the most important performances include the concert at the White night in Naples 29th October 2005 and the two held in Brasil in January 2006, in Salvador de Bahia, for the Festa de Bomfim and the Festa de Ribera, receiving the attention by the local Brazilian media. During the trip to Brazil, Banda berimbau participated to stages and workshops together with the directors of some of the most important Brazilian groups. The band has also been hosted live on MTV's TRL show, held in Trieste on June 17th 2006 and has played on July 8th at the famous Exit Fest in Novi Sad in Serbia (www.exitfest.org), the same night when Billy Idol, Junior Jack, Dog Eat Dog e Sofa Surfers were playing at the festival.
In the past, many ahows abroad too, especially in Slovenia and Croatia, where the Band held a long tour touching all the major cities.
Banda Berimbau also had the honour to open the concert of the legendary Brazilian musician Gilberto Gil, when he participated to the Rototom Reggae Sunsplash (the biggest reggae festival in Europe) in 2003, live on national radio and with video shots broadcasted by the Brazilian TV.
During the shows, Banda Berimbau plays various rhythms of afro-brazilian origins, from the typical samba enredo of Rio de Janeiro to the evocative rhytms of the blocos afro de Bahia and the Nordeste (samba-reggae, maracatù, ijexà, funky).
The colors of the Band are yellow, red and green. Yellow and red represent the sun, the joy of the light and the energy of fire, green is a homage to nature. White was added to these 3 initial colours, as a sign of peace between the peoples from the whole world.
