His distinct and unique style placed him in a category of Pukhtu singers that may never have a substitute. He mesmerized millions of Pukhtun with his songs in his homeland Afghanistan, and neighboring Pukhtunistan to the east. Unfortunately he did not live long enough. The way he died makes it even more compelling for Pukhtun to sorely miss him, and mourn his death. His brutal death for such a trivial reason [as narrated below by Noorzai] was just appalling. Ubaid Ullah Jan is burried at the base of 'Khoozak' mountain' in Chaman - the border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. In a tribute to this great singer of Pukhtu, Pashtana of Kandahar wrote in her comments and messages: [He was born in Kandahar, Afghanistan. There is not going to be another Ubaid Ullah Jan Kandahari. His songs take me back to Kandahar. I knew him when I was 7 years old. He was a great man, a great singer, a wonderful son, and brother. He IS Truly MISSED very much by the ones that LOVES AND RESPECT him EVEN TODAY]. Providing a brief biographical note of Ubaid Ullah Jan, Noorzai [of Afghanistan] wrote in his message: [Ubaid Ullah Jan was born in Kandahar city's 3rd borough (Drayama Nahiya) or division.
