Former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein gave his first formal testimony before the Iraqi Special Tribunal in Baghdad on Wednesday.
Speaking after his half-brother and co-defendant Barzan al-Tikriti, Hussein called the trial "a comedy," calling it "The comedy against Saddam and seven co-defendants."
The trial judge blocked access to the trial to citizens and press in order to discourage Hussein from making political speeches during the trial.
The next session of the trial will be held on April 5, three weeks from today.

Who was buried in Tikrit? We know Saddam had a double or look-alike. But what happened to him after he sank to the scaffolding will remain a mystery of this botched execution. We cannot rule out the possibility that a temporary scaffolding was part of a designed attempt to inflict retribution as Saddam fell, according to ancient blood feuds.
Was another Iraqi military intelligence camera on that scaffolding, recording footage the public must not see, in the absence of any reporters or UN observers, and in violation of an Iraqi law forbidding executions during religious holidays?
On Januay 15 Saddam Hussein's half brother, Barzan Ibrahim, was decapitated on the same gallows:

The charges, which Hussein said were too long, include accusations of torture, murder and the execution of children for incidents related to the 1982 massacre of 148 Shiite men and boys from the village of Dujail. Hussein faces the death penalty if convicted.
"A head of state is protected by the constitution, therefore I cannot reply to the long statement," Hussein said.
Judge Rahman replied, "you were, but now you are a defendant."
