Description: I was ASKED to give a tentative response PRIOR to the special's airing which obviously entails some risks. Due to time restraints, I omitted the details of the arguments, such as the name Mariamene. Google Richard Bauckham's linguistic argument against Discovery Channels interpretation of Mary's name. Since viewing the special, a couple modifications are necessary to my argument. 1.) Joseph (Jose) is argued to be the brother of Jesus. Ok, but the other 3 brothers are still missing. You can't count blank ossuaries. The James ossuary inscription can't be used because #1 It is a forgery. #2 we have no proof it was in the tomb. #3 the inscription styles don't match. 2.) Matt is argued to be a family member because statistics generated from the genealogy in Lk. Ok, but this is still a statistical argument. We have no textual proof that Jesus had a family member named Matt who would be buried here because #1 if this is Mary's genealogy, then her relatives would be buried elsewhere. #2 If this was Joseph's genealogy, they would be buried in Nazareth or Bethlehem. Either way, Grandpa Matt wouldn't be buried here. As far as a younger Matt, this is simply pure speculation.
