This year the message was given by a veiled Muslim woman, Khadijah Ravat, who talked about controversial issues of the year such as Jack Straw's stance on the veil and the response to the Danish cartoons, as well as her conversion to Islam, her reason for wearing the niqab, the media's portrayal of radical and moderate Muslims, and her opinion of the importance of Christmas to herself.The Alternative Christmas message has previously been delivered by the Reverend Jesse Jackson, the family of Stephen Lawrence, and... err, the Simpsons.
