OPERA NIGHT NOVEMBER 2, 2007
Opera Night Described as "an open mike for trained singers," OPERA NIGHT consists of a spontaneous selection of music from vocalists who drop by for the evening. It is unrehearsed, and often, the accompanist reads the music for the first time that evening! There's a delightful camaraderie that exists between musicians and audience. Many in the audience are performers! After its debut on July 2, 2004 at the Caffé Portofino, this celebration of opera—and other genres— had grown so much that a larger venue was needed. Our new home, St. Paul's Methodist Church, is perfect for Opera Night. The acoustics are wonderful and the seating is comfortable. Our list of performers is growing too. Many of the original singers still perform regularly, and we have new artists arriving each month, including many young and talented students. Our special guest for this evening is David Axelrod, Suffolk Poet Laureate. What better way to celebrate David's newest position than to welcome him to Opera Night. There is a wealth of music inspired by poetry, and we can only skim the surface! David will read selections from his book, "The Impossibility of Dreams."
