The Big Plan
The corporate career development path is restricting me from the work that will allow me to succeed naturally by operating in cultures both corporate and geographic, in which I fit, and in which I have genuine interest.I am therefore leaving my big so-called MBA FastTrack position, starting my own company, and moving to China. My reasons for choosing this particular path are first, that China is quite simply the site of a modern day gold rush, and second that I happen to love being there. I fit very well in Asian cultures and really flourish in China.I predict that I'll be moving to Shanghai within 12 months after executing a plan that includes an auspicious business formula that I currently spend everyday developing.I am however not eliminating the possibility that there are other avenues to capitalizing on the China gold rush, and I'm very open to any ideas or information from my friends and professional network. But again, given that nothing has thus far come along, I am taking my career into my own hands and am going to make this happen. I intend to spend the next ten years or so living and working in Shanghai, and I expect to be very successful. For this to happen, I will at some point need people - I'll be either looking to partner with or employ Chinese and possibly also US based talent resources. Some of you are highly educated and accomplished Chinese with whom I would love to work. Some of you are very bright and newly educated Chinese that have either recently begun, or are eager to begin your careers as global business professionals. Some of you are Foreigners living in China and doing the very same kind of business that I am entering into, and will either be competitors or partners. And still others are friends and aquaintances here in the West whom I have identified as high potential talents. This video is for the purpose then of asking my social and professional network for support and information, and also for recruiting for possible partnerships and employees. This is going to be big. I believe that when someone finds their correct economic place in the universe, that they can achieve wild success. Ya know Donald Trump talks about this stuff, and I'm not going to get into it a whole lot. But I've been talking about doing this kind of work for years and my whole life has really been leading up to it. I'm finally going to start doing my life's work. And I'll tell you what, I am excited, focused, and driven. So, let's do this. Here's the plan. I will begin by assisting small to medium size US fabricators in sourcing parts or assemblies from Chinese manufacturers. This will of course require that I have a reliable manufacturing network in China. I'll charge a handsome consulting fee for creating the China/US relationship, and for managing the production process from cradle to the grave on the order of goods. In the range of foreign market entry strategies, this is only the lowest risk and lowest investment level option. There are also of course joint ventures, and then finally wholly owned subsidieries. I will begin my agency operations by offering guidance on only the first China strategy option. But I intend to broaden my expertise in order to become a full scale consulting agency offering guidance on the full suite of China market entry strategies.I will also at some point as my agency grows, begin calling on Japanese SME's (small to medium sized enterprises), and offering the same suite of services. Given that China and Japan have a history of war and contention, I believe that I have a competitive advantage as a relationship conduit that will give me an edge over Chinese or Japanese staffed competitor agencies. Also, given that Japanese SME presidents are often not global business professionals, and often do not speak English, receiving a call from a Japanese speaking American will be a very fresh experience for them, and I believe doors will fly open for me.Another high value service I plan to explore is for a team of engineers to do surprise quality assurance assessments of China factories either owned by multinationals, or supplying them in order to shield multinationals from the liability of their products having inferior materials or practices used in their production processes. That's it. Wish me luck, or join me. Either way, thanks a lot for watching.
