Vintage Nomura TN Apollo-Z Moon Traveler Capsule Toy
http://www.opamerica.com Presenting a vintage T.N. Nomura Moon Traveler Apollo-Z Battery Operated Toy with it's original Box! This item was made in Japan in the late 1960's. The toy measures 12" inches in length. Made of both plasic and tin. No chips, cracks, or dents! The litho is on great shape. The only flaw is some glue residue on the bottom of the blue transparent capsule tip. I put a couple batteries in and the toy made a loud sound and lit up. Box is in very nice condition, too!The book Vintage Toys: Robots and Space Toys had a nice write up about this model on page 136:"Nomura's contribution to the late-1960's Apollo product rush is Apollo-Z Capsule, an interesting and semi-realistic (if unremarkable) toy. All the basics are here: flashing lights, mystery action, and 'space noise.' In fact, there's little to defive this toy as Nomura, beyond the trademarked use of the hyphenated Z suffex found on so many T-N toys, including Robotank-Z (1960s). At 12 inches in length, this is a substantial plaything that leverages the period's 'silver-blue' litho look to convey cool, calculating realism. Apollo-Z is one of many period playthings to be based, not on the lunar lander, but on the Command Module which orbited the moon. Once the astronauts had returned from the surface, they'd re-enter the earth's atmosphere in the Command Module's fore section - the re-rentry vehicle (or 'space capsule'). collected by enthusiasts of late-period realism, Nomura's Apollo-Z is one of the last of its kind: a dignified (boring) space toy design that captures the real-life thrills and daring exploits of a lost time."
