Neo-Nazi/Anti-Neo-Nazi Demonstration, Prague, 11/...
I shot this video at the time when the Neo-Nazis clashed with the Anti-Fascists at Nám,,stí Curieovych in Prague. The situation: some Neo-Nazi punk-asses registered with the city to do a demonstration under the guise of "anti-iraq-war protest".......but they scheduled it to take place IN the Jewish Quarter AND on the anniversary of Kristallnacht ("Crystal Night", a night 69 years ago when some haters murdered almost 100 Jews and wrecked property in the Jewish Quarter of Prague).........who wasn't gonna see through that one, right?............So, there were basically two groups of anti-neo-nazis in action yesterday: one was a group of peaceful Jewish demonstrators who held memorial services (you can see pictures on my new album), and the other was an all-out anti-fascist mob whose goal was to literally block the neo-nazis from entering the Jewish Quarter. What you see in this video is the place where the neo-nazis and anti-fascists clashed. You can't actually see any close-up action in this video, but there were, among other things, some 'minor' police brutality, smoke bombs, etc. Most of the mob was rather docile, but even so, there were hundreds (maybe a thousand) anti-fascists against like, 50 neo-nazis. The police had to surround the neo-nazis to stymy violence from either side. Eventually, more riot police rode in on horses and chased many of the neo-nazi demonstrators across the river to separate the two groups. Most of the people there were rather young, and many of them seemed ready to participate in some serious riots (dressed in unidentifiable clothing, etc. should it have broken out. We, the anti-fascists, by our sheer number, succeeded in blocking the neo-nazis from entering the Jewish Quarter. Sorry there's not more video; I didn't expect to actually do anything with it, so it didn't occur to me to take a lot of video.
