Casa Nuaanarpoq
Casa Nuaanarpoq Alternative Powered house in Taos New Mexico by Peter Walker. Living out on the mesa, away from power lines and pavement, does not mean sacrificing comfort or technology. This short view of an "off the grid" home provides inspiration that we can integrate creativity, simplicity and reliable technology into our modern living spaces. During a video shoot for a solar energy documentary, Peter Walker discovered Ken Anderson from Edge Architects, an architect design firm which has intelligently integrated both high and low tech systems. In fact, this home called "Casita Nuaannarpoq", has been designed to allow for high speed satellite internet, rainwater catchment, and electricity from the sun. Edge Architects goal is to design elegant, innovative buildings and spaces, particular to their unique inhabitants, which integrate nature and coexist harmoniously with their environment. Edge Architects designs celebrate creativity and enhance the quality of life for all involved, while demonstrating a thoughtful interconnectedness with the earth. Edge is an architecture firm committed to sustainability and environmentally appropriate design. Edge Architects designs typically focus on the use of alternative materials (straw bale, Rastra block, pumice-crete cob, adobe, etc.) with a passive solar orientation and often incorporate independent systems such as photo-voltaic electric, catch water, and grey water re-use. Edge Architects make every effort to maximize the building's energy efficiency while incorporating recycled, sustainable and healthy materials. This was posted on taosplaza.com in 2004.
