Description of "Soirée (Partial Clip) by Geor"
Soirée was choreographed by George Alley of Alley INK Dance and performed on this video
FEB 04-05.05 Homo,Oh No! @ The William Way Ballroom, Philadelphia
and also performed on April 01-02 2004 MFA Concert: Beveled Conwell Theatre (2004), Temple University, and also at Temple Univeristy in 2003.
The piece, "Soirée", features five women at a dinner party. The dance is centered around a dining room table where the five dancers manipulate it in different ways. Inspired by George Cukor's movie "The Women", and Kurt Joos' "Green Table", these five dancers vie for the audiences' attention while committing acts of emotional sabotage upon each other. The piece is accompanied by a live piano score written and performed by Philadelphia-based musician and sculptor Billy Blaise Dufala. This piece is a satire as well as a social commentary on our own competitive instincts. The work focuses on the choreo-musical aspects of the piece by exploring the connections between music and dance. It is also a study in the psychological map of this configuration of dancers, and an exercize in manipulating humor to offer a psychological insight into the construction of these characters.
