This video is the first of series of videos on the most famous democracy and human rights activist of South Korea whose name is Rhyu, Simin(유시민). He fearlessly struggled against brutal military dictatorship throughout 80s and was tortured and imprisoned wrongfully. While he was in prison, he wrote the most heralded document among all those writings to proclaim human dignity in world history. This document is called "A petition filed to the Appeals Court of Korea by Rhyu Simin" in which he explained elegantly the reasons that such a mild-mannered man like himself had no choice but to choose to become a most fiersome figther against inhumane regime of the time. This video particularly shows scenes of mass demonstration and subsequent vieolent oppresion by the Korean government. Since democratization began in 90s, he became a writer, a TV commentator, and a politician. As a politican, he still tirelessly fights for powerless people in Korean society.
