유시민-3
This video is the third of series of videos on the most famous democracy and human rights activist of South Korea whose name is Rhyu, Simin(유시민). He fearlessly struggled against brutal military dictatorship throughout 80s and was tortured and imprisoned wrongfully. While he was in prison, he wrote the most heralded document among all those writings to proclaim human dignity in world history. This document is called "A petition filed to the Appeals Court of Korea by Rhyu Simin" in which he explained elegantly the reasons that such a mild-mannered man like himself had no choice but to choose to become a most fiersome figther against inhumane regime of the time. Since democratization began in 90s, he became a writer, a TV commentator, and a politician. As a politican, he still tirelessly fights for powerless people in Korean society. This particular video contains scenes from the presidential address in the Participation Government Evalution Forum in which President Roh, Moohyun(노무현)'s charm was nicely demonstrated. For the historical contextual explanation, the dark past under military dictatoship is shown as a vidid reminder to all the people in the world that the current government is an achievement of hard-fought struggle. As a champion of the President Roh's political thoughts, Mr. Rhyu's remarks in this video resonate clearly his determinaion to the right cause of democracy and human rights.
