Rest in peace, Spot.
Spot passed away yesterday. We had her put down because she had been suffering from pulminary (lung) cancer and the vet told us that the damage was irreverseable and that keeping her alive any longer would only prolong her pain.Spot lived to be fifteen years old. She was born in our family and raised with her sister, Bear. Bear died when she was about 8 years old due to lung problems as well, and we buried Spot beside her after she passed.Spot was full of love, and she is the most beautiful creature -- feline or human -- I have ever known. She was extremely smart and generous with her affection, and she was more than a cat to us. She was part of our family. In her final months, Spot grew more and more sick. We did absolutely everything we could to keep her comfortable and happy, but it took over $1000 to just find out what was wrong, just to find out there was nothing more we could do for her. Despite losing almost five pounds in her last six months, feeling weak and unable to move or eat, and being in pain, Spot loved us through everything and basked in our attention, purring and appreciating the love we gave her.I can't remember life without Spot, and although we knew this day would come soon, it hit our whole family very hard. My father and I were there when she was put to sleep; she took it like a champ, and she was ready to die. Before they even put the needle in she laid her head down and died just like that, with us by her side.Spot was courageous, loving, loyal, smart, and an amazing family member. She leaves behind her playmates Tiger and Vagabond. In this video, you will see Spot playing mostly with Tiger, because Vagabond is pretty shy, but all three of our girls loved each other and spent their time together as if they were sisters.Rest in peace, Spotty. I'll never forget my baby girl.Music: "Keep Me in Your Heart" by Warren Zevon.
