My mom and dad suffered catastrophic illnesses in the Spring. My mom had experienced congestive heart failure and pneumonia and my dad a massive stroke that paralyzed his left side within 3 months of each other. My dad had the stroke the same weekend I was in San Antonio at the "Ted Nicholas Copywriting Seminar" taking photos and running the computers and audio-visual program for Ted and Joel. The day my dad had the stroke was devastating. I still remember vividly what I was doing on May 23, 2003. My cell phone was turned off and I did not find out about my dad's stroke until the seminar was over on Sunday. After consulting with my wife, we made the decision to put the heroes program temporarily on hold to move back and forth from San Diego and Dallas TX to take care of both of my parents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.In Spring of 2004 I had the opportunity to do the photography and run the computers at "Joel Christopher and Ted Nicholas's Double Birthday Bash." During the event Joel had me come up on stage to explain why I had operated the computers and multi-media programs and took photos at seminars at my own expense for over three years. While I was explaining my goal to discover real-life heroes without owing anything to anyone, having the freedom to choose who I thought were real heroes, the grief of my mom's and dad's illnesses suddenly struck and I could not stop crying. It was truly amazing how many heroes in the audience came up after to hug and console me. After taking so many photos of potential heroes at seminar events for three years we had formed our own internet family. Photos of people having a great time and smiling and putting names on the photos creates an extended family that is invaluable. So many great friendships have been formed because people were able to remember names and the correct faces.Since my mom died in April 2007, it is still difficult because my dad is on hospice and nearing death also. With the 2007 Firestorm in Southern California, I have put my heroes training program up on youtube.com so those going through difficult times can benefit from my "Think and Grow Rich" superlearning program that has helped me deal with the grief and loss of the biggest heroes in my life, my mom and dad.
