The former Iraqi leader will also be charged with crimes against humanity and of genocide in relation to the Anfal campaign against Kurds in the 1980's which lead to the deaths of 180,000 Kurds. The genocide case will also include the infamous Halabja gas attack which lead to the deaths of 5,000 Kurds.Saddam Hussein appearing alone in the court immediately started a tirade against the Iraqi interior ministry, interrupted by the judge Rauf Abdel Rahman. The judge interrupted Saddam calling on him to stop making political statements, which Saddam answered "You fear the interior minister; he doesn't even scare my dog".The former Iraqi leader along with seven other co-defendants are on trial for allegedly organizing the execution of more than 140 residents of the Shiite village of Dujail, following an attempt of assassinate Saddam in 1982.
