Description of "Edith Piaf La Vie en Rose Engl"
1954 performance of the1946 song that made Piaf the only French star to be a household name in America, the only song in French I can think of that made the American hit parade . The English version of the 2007 biopic film about Piaf, La Mome, hasbeen titled La Vie en Rose, "a world where roses bloom" Piaf sings, when performing it in English. It's her own song, describing the happiness she experienced with her lover, the boxer Marcel Cerdan. Piaf is alleged to have recovered from blindness at the shrine of St. Therese de Lisieux who said, "When I die I will send down a shower of roses." Images of roses are usually associated with this saint. It seems to me, this may be another source for "je voie la vie en rose."
