Anti-Fruit Dumping Regulations ---Last year, US Department of Agriculture announced it was going to enact new federal marketing order regulations to in effect repeal the consumer reforms we had helped pushed through a decade before. During the 1990's, we represented Gerawan Farming. We forged a coalition with consumer groups like Consumers Union and small fruit growers to enact the first California marketing order reforms since the 1930's. The regulations banned the forced dumping of fruit that had caused the destructions of hundreds of thousands of tons of fresh fruit to stabilize fruit prices. We shot and edited this 30 second story arranged for a modest statewide TV buy, used a website and Google "pop up" ads, and pulled together a coalition of consumer and nutrition advocates to help "persuade" USDA and the federal marketing order to halt any repeal of the reform regulations. The regulations were dropped.
