Fight like a girl - Hair pulling for Women's Self Defense
One of the first images that pops to mind when you hear the words "Fight like a girl" is probably hair pulling!Don't get me wrong, I know there are many women and girls who know how to throw a punch. My point is that hair pulling is actually an excellent technique for self defense! Here's what's strange though, most of the time girls only use hair pulling on other girls, not men! What seems like an instinctual response when attacked by a girl does not come into play when a male attacks. Why? Confidence. When a male attacks you, you have an immediate thought that you cannot defend yourself against a man. Wrong! You can, by using your instincts. Going back to hair pulling, remember: where the head goes the body follows. Your balance is completely thrown off when your head is yanked side to side. And while you've got your attacker off balance, you can send uppercuts and knees to his face or gouge his eyes. On top of that, watch this video & notice where the hands go, right to the point of contact; the top of the head. This takes your opponents hands away from hitting you back or blocking and exposes him to your counter attack! Grabbing the hair is even better than the Muay Thai clinch!*Although I do not condone violence or the taping of fights for entertainment proposes, I do occasionally use videos for educational proposes. Take a look at some of the Girl Fights on Youtube and you will notice and learn something. You can really see that the girls are gaining great control of the other. Take notice of how controlling the hair, completely throws the other off balance. On top of this the girls fire off punches right on target because they can feel the other's head. Therefore you can see how this could be used in your favor against a male attacker. So, not only does hair pulling give you the added sense of 'touch', when used against a male who probably isn't used to fighting like, you will also be able to reclaim the element of surprise, which is a great way to level the battlefield, so to speak. Even in the dark, wherever your hand is, it is easy to locate his eyes and to deliver an more devastating technique.Remember these points on hair pulling:Where the head goes the body must follow. The instinctual response of placing ones hands on the point of attack means his hands are no longer on you! This gives you time to deliver another strike like the eye gouge or throat jab.
