Carol (Carol Kane) is a struggling actress in Hollywood, searching endlessly for work. Like so many others before her, she ends up at a casting call for Claude Rembo (Miller), a lowly director of cheap nudie films who preys on desperate would-be starlets. Carol is offered the job, and against the urgings of her boyfriend Peter (Duryea), accepts a role alongside two other girls in Rembo's latest effort, which Rembo has described as a complete departure from his prior work. No doubt that will prove true, for Rembo has gone completely insane! In order to fulfill his lunatic visions for this new project, he sequesters the girls in his mansion, drugs them with LSD, then prepares to roll film during the peak of their hallucinations. It's so crazy, it just might work - if they survive it!Is This Trip Really Necessary (a.k.a. Blood of the Iron Maiden) is way out, man! You'll really dig the groovy soundtrack by a happening band called "Weeds Own", and John Carradine shows up for a cameo as a wacko doctor who does not seem to actually know much about medicine.
