Act II Finale("Grand March" & "Gloria All'Egitto, Ad Iside")"Aida"Giuseppe VerdiMario Lanza;Orchestra & Chorus of the Rome Opera House(Teatro Dell'Opera Di Roma);Constantine Callinicos, conductor(1958)I thought I should also add that in the "Triumph March," Lanza oversang the 260 member Rome Opera House orchestra and chorus. The General Director Ricardo Vitale was deeply impressed and in August 1958 Mario accepted his invitation to open the Rome Opera season in 1960 with "Tosca." Lanza was also in talks with La Scala to open the 1961 season (possibly with "Pagliacci"). Unfortunately Mario died in October of 1959 due to very poor health caused by the many stresses of his early Hollywood years.Mario Lanza (31 January 1921 -- 7 October 1959) was an American tenor and Hollywood movie star who enjoyed success in the late 1940s and 1950s. His voice was considered by many to rival that of Enrico Caruso, whom Lanza portrayed in the 1951 film "The Great Caruso." Lanza was able to sing all types of music. While his highly emotional style was not always universally praised by critics, he was immensely popular and his many recordings are still prized today.
