Tes Uno & dj Raedawn live at Camden Centre - London - 2003
http://www.myspace.com/newyorkteshttp://www.djraedawn.comThis is an excerpt from a Tes Uno set at a Lex Records festival in London England in early 2003 that included artists such as Danger Mouse, Dose One and Jel, Fat Jon, Boom Bip and dj Signify. A short protest anthem filmed by the late and Great Nick Kilroy - The man behind KIN records and Gabba.net ( Rest in Peace Homie ) . Dj Raedawn is backspinning the classic luda instrumental while Tes Uno lays down anti war lyrics. Though alot of groups had problems dealing with reverb from the extremely high ceilings, Tes was able to cut through with his sharp vocal style. Earlier that day, the duo had ripped the airwaves at an underground grime radio station called juice fm. It was during this tour that the duo were first introduced to UK garage and 2-step by Nick who maintaned a diverse radical open source server for the world to communicate through. This night was a legendary meeting of the new era of independent hip hop emerging from the depths of the suburbs and, in Tes' case, the most urban breeding grounds for ingenuity. This was the first time Dizzee was being played on the radio...a time when europe was still discovering the so called intellegent hip hop movement introduced in the late 90's by british techno labels such as Warp and Ninja tune. So it is indeed safe to say that this event was a hippy hop festival in the midst of the gulf war spearhead by George Bush and Tony Blair. College kids, backpackers, thugs, artists, both female and male were all interwoven in the crowd. This was a Love fest of sorts. An escape from the commercial glamorous gangster driven hip hop sounds that were being forced upon the masses around the world. The duo took a dance track and converted it into a more grimey opus. This night was filled with psychedelia , a nexus of emerging experimental ideas laden with battle raps along with math influenced rhymes. This was around the time when Journals around the world began to segregate progressive hip hop by race ...giving the nomer "indie" rap to the new suburban emerging Caucasian artists. a stark line was drawn at this time, these journalists began the indie genre as separation from the African American progressive underground sound of the time. This film was posted on sept 11th 2007 in memory of those lives lost in the Middle Eastern Conflicts. Tes ,as well as many of the lyricists that night, opened the dialogue for a deeper insight of what a hip hop show could offer. After releasing a few singles and an album with Lex records called "X2" or "times two" at that time... Tes moved on to work with other electronic labels such as K7 via his collaborations with the german glitch hop duo Funkstorung and Ed banger via the jazz influenced electronic dub funk of Krazy Baldhead. He has also worked on the other side of the game....collaborating with on more underground rap labels such as Contact Records out of Japan and Embedded Records out of New York. Dj Raedawn has since gone on to release music under the name Crunc Tesla on the US idm label Tigerbeat 6 as well as the Parisian techno rap/ pop label Ekler'o'shock. Tes' newest full length solo is set to be released in 2008 featuring Stereolab, Funkstorung, Johnny Dark (producer of Junior Boys first album originally release by Nick's KIN imprint), M.Sayyid, dDamage, Crunc Tesla, Krazy Baldhead, Vast Aire of Cannibal Ox, Dres of Black Sheep, Eric of Juan Mclean, Black Dice!!!!let's see were the future of techno electro rap takes us! Don't forget that the US rappers and producers invented Crunk and all forms of future dubstep mashup madness. Downtempo or Uptempo , The raps unveiled at this show created a window for the future. The rest of this set will eventually be release through the multimedia label luv technologies. the set includes the duo mixing everything from psych rock to acid jazz riffs into into a thick verbose disco stew. Punk Rappers Beware!
