It rally is a big family affair
Brothers prepare for the prestigious Lombard RallyTop endurance rally drivers Owen and Jamie Turner will be taking part in the prestigious Lombard Rally which begins tommorow.The Dunstable-based duo are hoping for yet more success in their 1400cc Rover saloons having been regular winners throughout the UK circuit.Owen, of Crabtree Way, is the current Endurance Rally champion and his brother Jamie, who lives in Mardale Avenue, has previously won the Lombard Rally event in 2005.To make it a truly family affair Jamie will be co-driven by their father Mike, of Shefford, who was a rally driver during the 70s.Owen, Jamie and Mike are partners at the St Albans-based Rover Centre, where their cars are meticulously prepared for the gruelling four-day event covering a distance of 1,300 miles.Mike said: "There's going to be some stiff competition but the boys have a good track record in this class of rallying and will be confident. Jamie has roped me into co-driving for the first time so it should be very exciting."The Lombard Rally is designed to give club drivers the chance to get their names alongside previous winners including rallying giants Roger Clark, Hannu Mikkola and Timo Makinen.This year's event has attracted a total of 120 entrants from across the UK and abroad, including former US rally champion John Buffum.The race starts from the British Heritage Motor Museum at Gaydon in the Midlands before briefly visiting Silverstone.The drivers will then spend the next three days in the great forest stages before finishing at Cheltenham on Sunday.Words: Sanjay OdedraVideo: Natalee Hazelwood
