A "there but by the grace of god go I" story...In March 2005 on the eve of the Farsi New Year in a park outside Tehran... a sixteen-year old Iranian girl, Nazanin Fatehi, was attacked by three men who tried to rape her. In an act of self-defense Nazanin stabs one of her attackers who later dies in the hospital from his wounds. After confessing under torture, Nazanin still a minor was sentenced to death by hanging for his murder.Nazanin Afshin-Jam, a 26-year old former Miss Canada (2003) and 1st runner-up in Miss World... whose family fled Iran when she was an infant after the return of the Ayatollah hears of Miss Fatehi's plight through a chance email from a man in France who stumbles upon Miss Afshin-Jam's web site in an internet search for the other... and contacts her to find out if she is aware of her "namesake's" fate.Thus begins a nearly two-year struggle to try to stop this young woman from being executed. The film follows the two Nazanins as one uses her "celebrity" to draw attention to the other's story and against all odds gains Nazanin Fatehi a new trail and ultimately a surprising release form Iran's notorious Evin Prison in February 2007.It's a heart wrenching human drama of wrongful prosecution, the harsh realities for women and girls under Shiria law, the injustice of child executions and the seemingly universal inequity of court systems for the poor and disenfranchised.
