Cross Resurrection and Salvation
The resurrection of Jesus is the foundation of the Christian faith. In Paul's letter to the Corinthians, he declares: "And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ: whom He raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not." (1 Corinthians 15:14-15). "And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins." (1 Corinthians 15:17). As it turns out, no legitimate scholar or religion today denies that Jesus was a historical figure who walked the earth approximately 2,000 years ago, was a great teacher and miracle worker, and who died on a cross for the crime of blasphemy. Therefore, the only legitimate dispute is whether Jesus was the Son of God who was resurrected from the dead after His crucifixion. The issue of Jesus' death is important to Muslims because it differentiates their concept of Jesus from Christians, to whom the death of Jesus is paramount. While there is some dispute, Muslims believe Jesus did not die but was raised to heaven by God. God gave someone Jesus' appearance, causing everyone to believe Jesus did die. The basis of any of these beliefs is the following verse in the Qur'an:"And their saying: Surely we have killed the Messiah, Isa son of Marium, the messenger of Allah; and they did not kill him nor did they crucify him, but it appeared to them so (like Isa) and most surely those who differ therein are only in a doubt about it; they have no knowledge respecting it, but only follow a conjecture, and they killed him not for sure. Nay! Allah took him up to Himself; and Allah is Mighty, Wise" Quran 4:157-158The topic: Cross Resurrection and SalvationA dialogue between Shabir Ally and Dr. David ShenkNote: This video contains some background music which is due to a local radio station transmission interfering with the video equipment while this dialogue was being recorded.
