The Nguyen Dynasty was the last monarchy to rule in Viet Nam only to hail under the feet of the French Colonial Empire. The 3 red stripes in the center of the yellow background was first introduced in 1880 and was used until 1920 by the Nguyen emperors under the new rules of the French Colonial Empire (Napoleon III).After their comfortable settlement in Viet Nam during 1920, the French labeled Viet Nam as "The An-nam Colony" (annam meaning "The Pacific South") and categorized north (tonkin), central (cochinchina) and south (an-nam) provinces. The current emperor changed the flag to his own version of "The An-nam Colony" with the one large red stripe in the center of the yellow background which was used until 1945.During 1923 the French officially made their own version of "The An-nam Colony" flag with the small French flag in the northern left corner of the yellow background used until 1945.During WW2 in 1945 Japan occupied Viet Nam and took control of the country as a military farming ground, only to produce garments and war equipments for the Imperial Japanese Empire. Japan unofficially changed the flag to three small red stripes in the center of the yellow background representing Viet Nam as their new puppet. The flag was later officially changed by the Imperial Japanese Empire to 3 red stripes in the center of the yellow background similar to the first flag but with a small broken link in the center of the second strip. Thus continuing their imperial domination over Viet Nam.After the defeat of Japan in 1945, the French colony resumes occupation in Viet Nam now changing the flag to 3 blue stripes in the center of the yellow background used until 1948.In 1948 (still under Annam Colony) Bao Dai changed the current flag back to the 3 red stripes in the center of the yellow background again reviving the first flag (or symbol) of colonial rule (or slavery), which was used until 1975.After the 1954 victory in "Dien Bien Phu" by the Viet Minh over France. Viet Nam was temporarily separated between north and south under the Geneva Accord. Bao Dai lost his position of the emperor's seat. Ngo Dinh Diem's took the dictatorship and changed the current flag to 3 red stripes in the center with a small American flag in the north left corner of the yellow background. This flag was used until the end of the war in 1975 with the resignation and exile of the last ARVN dictator Nguyen Van Thieu. This video shows the hypocrisy of the last presidency Nguyen Van Thieu under the "Saigon regime", how he has boosted the moral of the people only to benefit his position in a luxury life with many expensive artifacts while the people living under his dictatorship were devastated by the living conditions and having to work very hard to survive. Anyone in Viet Nam even most Vichoco in America would refer to his act as "coward", or "betrayal". He promised his regime much that he could not offer (more of encouraging a miracle, which anyone would've taken serious in such state, but he realistically have not taken any course of action to fulfil his promise), in conclusion before "The Fall of Saigon" in 1975 he resigned and escaped to Taiwan and later to USA where he died in 2001.Thieu's Quotes"Don't listen to what the Communists say, but look at what they do." -- hypocrisy?"Losing a President Thiệu, the military still has a three-star General Thiệu. The people still have a soldier, Nguyễn Văn Thiệu. I pledge to fight side by side with my brothers, the soldiers." -- hypocrisy? So after all this long history, it is ironic how Vichoco living in America are still raising this yellow flag with the 3 red strips in the center (which is now considered a terrorist flag) and labeling it as "Heritage and Freedom" (reversed psychology?) also praising the Nguyen Van Thieu for his heroism(?). Perhaps if you were living in France and want to go back to their plantation and pick grapes for a loaf of bread a day then by all means used it, or if you want to pick cottons for the Japanese and starve to death then by all means use it. But this is not the flag that Vietnamese nationalist and patriots bow to. This flag shows the weakness, humiliation and suffrage of the Vietnamese people for over 100 years.-VNTIGERThanks to HocHanhHocMau for the video!
